Thus far my opinion of Thailand hadn't been great. Back in December I traveled throughout Bangkok and the southern islands for three weeks and for various reasons it just didn't do it for me. But one day spent in the North has definitely changed my opinion of Thailand for the better.
Although it's one of the biggest cities in the country, Chiang Mai has a lot of character and manages to maintain a laid-back vibe. My first day here was spent wandering the city, meeting friendly people, trying tasty new foods for dirt cheap and drinking beers in our hostel's kiddie pool - a pretty good day if you ask me. Maybe Thailand isn't so bad after all...
